Movie plot
This is the story of a grieving father's wooden work being resurrected after the tragic death of his son. It all leads to a familiar converse, this time in the hands of Guillermo del Toro. Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio is a good movie. This classic story-telling stop-motion animation is another example of the filmmaker's interest in making his vision a reality. The new film, co-directed by del Toro and Mark Gustafson, presents a richly animated story with an impressive cast. Talents include Ewan McGregor, Ron Perlman, Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, David Bradley, Burn Gorman, Tilda Swinton, John Turturro and Christoph Waltz. It also features a young Gregory Mann as the main character. The new version comes alive with songs and music by Alexandre Desplat. There's a lot to enjoy here, so let's start with the story. Geppetto (Bradley) is a kind old man with a son he loves very much. That is until tragedy strikes, leaving him alone and heartbroken. Desperate, he creates a wooden boy, but this "boy" looks nothing like a real person. Still drowning in sadness, he longed for the return of his young son. When a Wood Sprite (Swinton) took pity on his suffering, she bestowed Geppetto's crudely designed creative life. It leads to a familiar adventure when a wooden boy named Pinocchio finds himself kidnapped from his home and forced to perform at the circus. Will Geppetto rescue his miraculous son with the help of the film's narrator, Sebastian J. Cricket (McGregor)?
