Movie plot
David Duchovny and Julia Louis-Dreyfus play Ezra's parents who are wealthy, free Jewish residents of Los Angeles. Shelley is an outstanding figure for Louis-Dreyfus, who has been wildly successful in recent years. She plays Shelley as a loving parent who can't help but stand in her way when cultures clash. Duchovny is certainly in a somewhat underrated role as Arnold, the square dad, who can't help but be embarrassed to cite pop culture that he considers still relevant. On the other side, Amira's parents are played by Nia Long and Eddie Murphy. Murphy plays Akbar Mohammad as a Muslim man who questions black culture, white appropriation and even things like a COVID-19 vaccine. Murphy is a comedic genius and has a very restrained performance, one of the better comedic roles he's played in a long time. Follows a new couple and their families, who find themselves examining modern love and family dynamics amidst clashing cultures, societal expectations and generational differences.
